Going to the movies is one of the most fun activities that you can do with your friends. However, people with hearing problems are not able to enjoy the movies in the same way. However, closed captioning glasses provide a great way for people with hearing impairment to enjoy the movies. Conceptual Design
The glasses were a long-time dream of Randy Smith, a chief administrative officer at Regal Cinemas, because he has a son that is hearing impaired. He wants his son to be able to enjoy the movies while they are in theaters. The partnership between Regal Cinemas and Sony has resulted in the Access Glasses, a promising lead in the future of hearing impairment care.
Designed For Comfort
The Access Glasses were designed to fit the head of just about every person that will come through the theater. Also, they can accommodate other glasses being worn beneath them. The glasses are designed so that the sensors for the captions are fitted to the inside of the rims. The entire contraption is light enough that it can be worn for several hours without causing any form of discomfort.
How Do They Work?
Once you arrive at the theater, you will need to consult a concierge in order to have the glasses set up for you. This requires them to be adjusted for the brightness as well as the angle at which the people view the film. Fortunately, the glasses can also account for any unusual angles at which you are viewing the movie.
Once the glasses have been programmed for the entire feature event, they will begin to pick up the captioning information directly from the projection room. As a result, the glasses will be able to display the graphics in the glasses. In most cases, the captions tend to appear as though they float about ten feet in front of the user’s eyes. This will allow people with hearing loss to view the movie with as much ease as possible.
Where Are They Found?
The glasses are on a trail run right now, and can be found at 6,000 different screens at Regal Cinemas. While they are being tested for the summer, their future beyond that point is unknown. Most people believe that they will become more widely available if they brought in significant amounts of people throughout the summer.
